Based on vital registration data from Chunchun city and Chunseong Gun, Kangwon Province, we applied Standardized Mortality Ratios(SMR´S) to analyze the trend of mortality of the residents. The standard population is the total Korean.The time period for the study is from 1983 to 1988.
The data set has some flows. Since the reporting rates are not uniform over areas and pattern of diagnosis may vary over areas, our data may not be compatible with the national data. Because of the flaws in the data set, we have to interpret the results very carefully. Therefore, we recommend the result to use in looking at some trend of mortality in the areas.
In overall, the two are showed higher SMR´s than the standard population in spite of the flaws. The Chunchun showed higher SMR than the Chunseong area.
For the Chunchun, many causes showed high SMR´s while the Chunseong does not. For the Chunchun male, the SMR´s of malignant neoplasm of digestive organs and peritoneum(ICE 150-159), diseases of the nervous system(ICD 320-359), acute but ill-defined cerebrovascular disease(ICD 436), senility without mention of psychosis(ICD 797), franture of skull and face(ICD 800-804), other intracranial injuries(ICD 841-854, 950-951), other injuries, early complications of trauma (ICD 910-929, 958-959, 990-995), motor vehicle traffic accidents(ICD E810-819), accidental falls(ICD E880-888), other accidents, including late effects (ICD E900-929) are high. For the female, the SMR´s of malignant neoplasm of stomach(ICD 151), malignant neoplasm of genitourinary organs(ICD 179-189), ischaemic heart diseases(ICD 410-414), intracerebral and other intracranial hemorrhage(ICD 431, 432), acute but ill-defined cerebrovascular system(ICD 436), senility without mention of psychosis (ICD 797), fracture of skull and face (ICD 800-804), other intracranial injuries(ICD 851-854, 950-951), poisonings and toxic effects(ICD 960-989), other injuries, early complications of trauma(ICD 910-929, 958-959, 990-995), motor vehicle traffic accidents(ICD E810-819), accidental poisoning(ICD E850-869), accidental falls(ICD E880-888), other accidents, including late effects(ICD E900-929), suicide and self-inflicted injury(ICD 950-959) are high. For the Chunseong male, the SMR´s of other intracranial injuries(ICD 851-854, 950-951), other injuries, early compications of trauma(ICD 910-929, 958-959, 990-995), motor vehicle traffic accidents(ICD E810-819), suicide and self-inflicted injury(ICD E950-959) are high. For the female, the SMR´s of senility without mention of psychosis(ICD 797), transport accidents(ICD E800-848) are high.
